Please be advised that the MySiquijor.com Newsletter is "inactive" due to technical issues.  There is a very good possibility that the newsletter may not be resumed until 2007.  I am considering as an option of posting the newsletter on the website instead of mass mailing to the subscription base.

Is there any other website that has this many photos dedicated to one location?

A new ad has been posted in the "Real Estate" section of the MySiquijor.com Free Classified Advertisements.

I was forced to close the MySiquijor.com Forums (The Beach).  The use of obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented or any other material that I deem as abusive will not be tolerated on this website.  The decision to deactivate the forums was not an easy one for me.  After investing a considerable amount of time in developing the forums it saddens me to be forced to delete it from the website. I had anticipated the forums as being a way to further enhance MySiquijor.com’s ability of supplying provincial information to tourists and Siquijodnons around the globe as well as being a vehicle to increase environmental awareness, encourage ecotourism, and enhance Siquijor Pride. I am committed to utilizing MySiquijor.com's web presence in portraying a true representation of Siquijor's natural beauty to the world.   The language and content being posted in the forums was not reflective of Siquijor.

Today is "All Saints Day".

The MySiquijor.com host has begun the process of moving this website to a different server.  The move should be completed by the end of the day.  I do not expect any down time and anticipate only a few minor glitches over the next few days.  The end result will give MySiquijor a higher quality and more reliable internet presence with lots of room for additional content and features.  This is a one of the initial steps involved in creating the new MySiquijor.com that will launch in 2006.

I would like to extend my condolences to the relatives of Reynaldo Siangco Dal of Pangi Siquijor, Siquijor.  Word has reached me via Joy Siangco Dal and family that he passed away on October 22nd.  He had been on dialysis for the past six months but could not financially afford the proper medications.  The family requests that you join them in praying for Peace for his Soul.

I was forced to remove the "Bamboo Wire" today due to abusive language and unsuitable subject matter.  I assure you that this action was not one that I enjoyed.  It is sad that some people have no respect for others.  The "Bamboo Wire" was a popular feature on this website and it will be missed.  MySiquijor.com is committed to portraying a true representation of the natural beauty of Siquijor to the world.  Many of the postings on the Bamboo Wire were not projecting an accurate image of Siquijor.

However, the MySiquijor.com forums ("The Beach") offers a lot more features than the Bamboo wire and allows more room for personal expression, exchange of ideas/information, and discussion.  Registration is required before participating and I strongly insist that all participants read the “Disclaimer” during the registration process. I will not allow any personal attacks, profanity, hardcore politics, spam type advertisements, etc. on this website. Just as expected with all of the Siquijor Beaches, I expect all of you to keep this beach clean.

You can access “The Beach” by clicking on the “The Beach graphic" on this page. Take off your sandals and come join us on the beach.  Relax, discuss, ask, rant, rave, listen, express yourself and leave your foot prints in the sand.

Today is National Heroes Day.  Please take time to reflect upon those who made sacrifices in the name of the Philippines and freedom.

In an effort to further enhance MySiquijor.com’s ability of supplying provincial information to tourists and Siquijodnons around the globe, I am proud to announce the opening of the MySiquijor.com Forum.

I would like to extend my deep appreciation for the input that I have received from many of the site’s visitors.  The input that I have received not only influenced the creation of the forum, but also the forum name and Topics of discussion.

Besides offering improved communications about Siquijor on a Global level, I anticipate the forum as being a vehicle to increase environmental awareness, encourage ecotourism, and enhance Siquijor Pride.  Your input has persuaded me to allow Visayan and English language in your postings.

Registration is required before participating and I strongly insist that all participants read the “Disclaimer” (word by word) during the registration process.  I will not allow any personal attacks, profanity, hardcore politics, spam type advertisements, etc. on this website.

I have chosen to call the new forum “The Beach”…to represent the natural beauty of the beaches of Siquijor.  Just as expected with all of the Siquijor Beaches, I expect all of you to keep this beach clean.

I continue to contribute MySiquijor.com’s success to the visitors. Your input will always be important to me. Whether your input is in the form of suggestions or constructive criticism, I thank you. I continue to encourage MySiquijor.com visitors to offer their input in the future.  I have included a “Comments” topic area where I welcome you to leave your comments, suggestions, or complaints regarding the forum.  My vision will remain “making MySiquijor” “Your Siquijor” as we share our love for the island.

You can access “The Beach” by clicking on the “The Beach graphic" on this page.  It is located just above “The Bamboo Wire” and the “Capitol Journal Graphics”.

At this time I would like to invite you to take off your sandals and come join us on the beach.  Relax, discuss, ask, rant, rave, listen, express yourself and leave your foot prints in the sand.

I am strongly considering adding a message/discussion board to MySiquijor.com in the very near future.  My decision will depend entirely upon your input.  I need to know what topics you would like to have available; i.e.. About Siquijor, OFW, relationships/marriage, Immigration, Spirituality and Religion, Personals and Friend Finders, Sports, Entertainment, Education, Recipes, Communications, Hot Topics, Beauty and Fashion, General Chit Chat, Anything Goes, Supernatural and Paranormal, General Culture, Health and Fitness, etc.  These are just some topic categories that might be of interest.  I feel as though a lot of you would benefit from being able to share your knowledge and opinions if I provide you with a forum to do so.  Also I know that their are a few of you out there that would love the opportunity to express yourselves and debate certain issues.  Hopefully this would provide a more suitable place for some of the entries that are currently being posted on the Bamboo Wire and the Guestbook.  There may need to be some restrictions such as requiring users to register. possibly limiting entries to the English language only, age restrictions, no profanity allowed, etc.  I assure you that there will definitely be some rules.  So, it is up to you...let me hear your thoughts and suggestions ASAP by clicking on the "Contact" in the upper menu or click here now.

The St. Francis of Assisi restoration project is progressing.  The Restoration Committee and the church parishioners have been very busy.  Two segments of the restoration project have not only been completed but have been paid for in full. Another part of the restoration project is in progress and nearly half of that has been paid. I wish that MySiquijor.com and its visitors could take credit for this accomplishment. However, nearly all of the recognition for this success belongs to the restoration committee and the parishioners.

MySiquijor.com does currently have 5,000 pesos that I will present to the church at some point in the coming months.  I did make a personal donation during my last time on the island and intend to give more from my own pocket during my next visit.  Many of us have heard "The Lord helps those who help themselves" and I believe that to be true.  However, it is time that we give them some help.  To view the donation details click here now

Our final donation to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign comes from my friend and his wife; Tommy and Amor Fenton.  Tommy and Amor live in Florida and visit the island at least once a year.

I have recently been made aware of an organization in Texas, USA; "The Texas Siquijorians".  This newly-formed group was organized in July of this year.  They are located in the Houston area and are currently putting together a shipment to be donated to the Siquijor Provincial Hospital.  The elected officers include, Stan Ontoy, Irene Lomongo Jumawan, Rico Fabugais, Sylva Lomongo McClurkin, Manuel Francisco, Rudy Jumawan, Luz Sebumpan Jumawan, and Betty Malicay dela Torre.  If you live in the Houston area and are interested in joining the group or participating in their efforts, I urge you to contact them.

The MySiquijor.com Sari-Sari Store is now officially closed.  My intention for opening the store 3 years ago was in hope of being able to offset some of my administrative costs involved in maintaining MySiquijor.com.  However, the sales did not live up to my expectations and I could no longer financially justify keeping the Sari-Sari Store open.  To those of you that purchased from the store, I sincerely thank you.  I have given all copyrights for my designs to The Coral Cay Resort.  They have selected some of the designs and are using them on products that they are selling locally.  Please do not email them to purchase or price merchandise...Sales are available at the resort only.

The MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign is winding down wiith only 4 days remaining for me to receive your donations.

Siquijor Gary

August 9, 2005

Five days remain for me to receive your donation to the Medical Campaign.  Steve Cavcey from Auburn, Washington USA is the latest donor.  Steve has only visited Siquijor once for a brief time but recognizes the importance of the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign.  Thank you Steve for your contribution.  By the way, Steve wants to spend more time on the island and is planning a return trip in the near future.

I will soon be announcing a special event scheduled to take place in the Municipality of Siquijor during the month of September.  Keep checking back for the details.

Due to the lack of sales activity I can no longer justify maintaining the MySiquijor.com Sari-Sari Store.  The store will be closing some time in the next 24 hours.

August 6, 2005

I have added a new feature to MySiquijor.com; The Siquijor Capitol Journal.  The Capitol Journal is the official publication of the provincial government of Siquijor.  I applaud Governor Fua and his staff for launching this publication and I am excited with its future potential.  I hope to be able to post upcoming issues of the journal in an effort to keep Siquijodnons around the globe informed of important issues and accomplishments.  To view the maiden issue click on the banner located on this page just below "The Bamboo Wire".

As of today, there are only 8 days remaining for me to receive your donation to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign.  The latest donation came from Dave & Epi Mack.  Epi (Jumalon) is originally from Cang-atuyom and currently resides with her husband in Indiana, USA.

July 27, 2005

“Above and Beyond”…those are the words that I have chosen to describe the actions of Des and Ester Quinn.  Last year the Quinns responded to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign by giving the largest donation.  With just 18 days remaining in the donation phase of this year's Medical Campaign, Des & Ester have very generously donated 250.00 USD!  Des & Ester are either in Australia, in Basac, or in Australia thinking of being in Basac.  They are the owners of "Chappy's Beer Garden".  The business is just getting started but you can view some pictures of it in the MySiquijor Photo Gallery in the "Basac Album".   Thank you Des & Ester for your very generous contribution!  The Quinns now have their names on the list of donors.

I have posted a new addition to the PenPal section.  Click here to view the new listing; Leila C. Rillera.

July 21, 2005

Ole Ludvig & Jenelyn Rosenborg of Norway have just used PayPal to send MySiquijor.com their donation to the medical campaign.  Their names have been added to the list of donors.  The Rosenborgs have chosen to join us in making a difference on the island.  Thank you Rosenborgs for caring.

July 20, 2005

With only 25 days remaining in the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign I am delighted to announce that I have received a very generous donation.  The Gadinger family of Bretten, Germany has made a family donation that totals $140.39!  The Gadinger family, (Ralf, Rechil, Ursula and Brigitte Redemann), have shown that they care about the future medical care available on the island.  Their names have been added to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign list of donors.  I am pleased that someone from Germany has stepped forward and joined MySiquijor.com in making a positive difference.

July 19, 2005

Please donate today...time is running out.

July 17, 2005

ONLY 28 DAYS REMAIN.  I must receive your donation to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign no later than August 15, 2005.  This is your last chance to show me that you care.

Siquijor Gary

July 15, 2005

Due to circumstances beyond my control, the deadline for the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign has been changed to August 15, 2005.  I must receive all donations by 08/15/2005. I have been forced to begin purchasing the medical supplies for the Siquijor Provincial Hospital ahead of schedule.  Only 30 days remaining to show the world that you want to participate in making a positive difference in Siquijor's future. I call on all of you to join us in making a difference.  Together we can show the world the true magic of Siquijor.  Join us now and become part of that magic.  Put your name on our donor's list and show Siquijor and the world that you care.

I have received a considerable amount of response to the MySiquijor.com Newsletter that was distributed on June 10, 2005.  For those of you that have not subscribed to the newsletter I have posted the article that has generated so much concern and feedback.  Click here to read the article now.

To some a hot cup of coffee is the best way to start a new day.  For me, there is nothing better than being greeted with a reminder that I am not alone in my efforts to improve life on Siquijor.  This was just such a morning.  Robin and Rhie Marshburn of Oregon, USA have joined the MySiquijor Medical Campaign.  Rhie Selim Marshburn grew up in Solangon, San Juan, Siquijor.  I thank Robin & Rhie for their donation and caring to make a difference. Their names have been added to the list of donors.

June 12, 2005

My warmest greetings on the occasion of the 107th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence.  On June 12, 1898, the Filipino people established by revolutionary proclamation the first republic in Asia. To recall this proud moment of our history is to remind ourselves of its enduring lesson. Independence, in whatever manner achieved, is only the beginning - not the final act of a people's emancipation.

June 3, 2005

The MySiquijor.com photo gallery now has in excess of 1,400 pictures!  We have added 4 new albums in the “submitted photos” for Tommy Schultz.  Tommy is an U.S. Peace Corps volunteer living in the Philippines.  In addition to adding his Siquijor related pictures to our gallery, we have also posted a new link to Tommy’s Website on our links page.  Be sure to visit his website and take a look at Tommy’s Photo Essays of other Asian locations.  I know that you will not be disappointed.

I have received two more donations to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign.  Michael Walkingstick and Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Seaman have chosen to make a difference in the quality of health care available on the island.  Both of these contributors are living in the USA.  Their names have been added to the Phase 2 list of donors.  So far eight of the donations have come from the USA, 1 from Siquijor, 1 from Belgium, 1 from England, and 1 from New Zealand.

The MySiquijor.com Guestbook has been under attack for the past week.  Someone (identified as Joana) continues to make entries in an attempt to lure visitors to a website where they list places from which to purchase prescription drugs.  My attempts to block their approximate 100 entries have proven to be unsuccessful.  If I block their ISP, I am also blocking innocent internet surfers that use the same Internet Service Providers.  I continue to delete the entries when I can and I have blocked the view of the URL in an effort to prevent anyone from falling prey to the scam.

MySiquijor.com demands a significant amount of time to maintain, update, etc.  Having to combat these negatives types of abuse is taking away that otherwise positive time.  If the abuse continues I will probably be forced to deactivate the guestbook.  It saddens me a great deal to think that I may have to remove it.

I have been accused of giving preferential treatment to those that donate to the MySiquijor.com medical campaign.  The time has come for me to address these accusations and I will do so to the best of my ability.  First let me say that the medical campaign is of the utmost importance to me and should also be equally important to those of you that claim to share my love for the island and the inhabitants.  Secondly, I feel as though if you have not contributed by this time, that perhaps it is because I have failed to give you enough information.  Because of this, I welcome any questions or concerns that you might have.  All that you have to do is send me email and I will do my best to give you an honest answer.  Now, I will answer the charges against me....hmmmm....yep, that's right!  I am guilty as charged.

Some new designs have been added to the Sari-Sari Store.  100% cotton T-shirts are as low as 9.99.

May 13, 2005

On this "Friday the 13th" I would like you to know that we now have 1313 pictures in our photo gallery.  Michael Walkingstick has added 9 pictures to the submitted photo section.

A new ad has been placed in the Real Estate section of the free classified ads.  Read the new ad to see if you know of any property that might qualify.

It has been two weeks since the last donation was received for the medical campaign.  I know that many of you have just not gotten around to sending your contributions.   How can I persuade you not to procrastinate any longer?  We have yet to receive a donation from Germany, France, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, and all of the other countries around the world that I have seen represented on the island.  You can use PayPal to send your donations from 45 countries securely.  Over 71 million users have a PayPal account; it is free and easy. However, you do not need an account.  You can use your major credit card to make you donation.  If you need any information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Rex & Elma Parkin from New Zealand now have their names on the list of donors for Phase 2 of the MySiquijor Medical Campaign.  It is caring people like the Parkins that are going to make this phase of the medical campaign successful.  Because of their contribution New Zealand is now represented.  I still have not heard anything from Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, France, etc.  Where are you people?  Please send your contributions today.  Click here to view the list of donors for Phase 2.

Daniela & Peter Mueller have submitted additional photos to their photo gallery.  I can tell that the Muellers enjoyed their time on the island.

Remember that if you have anything that you would like to buy or sell, have a special announcement, searching for employment, etc. that the MySiquijor.com's FREE classified advertisement section is available to assist you.

5,000+ miles separate the East Coast of England from the West Coast of the USA.  However, one factor unites the two points; people who possess the compassionate desire to make a difference.  The MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign has received two very generous donations.

During my latest visit to the island I had the fortune of being able to share some time with an exceptionally charming couple; Roger and Sarah Pinfold from Suffolk, England.  Though they have only visited Siquijor on one occasion, they have chosen to contribute to our worthy cause.  I extend my deepest appreciation to Sarah and Roger for their benevolence.

During our 3 years of existence on the internet, MySiquijor.com has received assistance and input from many of our visitors.  Undoubtedly, towards the top of the list is Christa Latay Herrmann of Concord, California.  Last year Christa made a personal donation to the initial phase of our Medical Campaign.  This year John & Christa Herrmann once again show their support of our efforts to have a positive influence by making a very generous donation to Phase 2.

At this point we have achieved approximately 25% of our targeted goal.  Please don’t delay…send your donation today. Click here to view the list of donors.

Ronny & Betsy Dehens care about the quality of health care available on the island.  Permanently residing in Belgium, the Dehen family returns to Maria, Siquijor at least once a year to visit relatives and friends.  The Dehens contributed to Phase 1 of the MySiquijor.com Medical campaign last year and have elected to donate again this year to Phase 2.  Ronny used PayPal services to send his donation from Belgium securely and quickly.

This donation is the 7th donation so far.  The score is USA 5, Siquijor 1, and now Belgium is in the game with 1.  Where are the people from Germany, Australia, France, England, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, etc.?

For the same price as a couple of cocktails, dining out, or a night at the movies, you can donate something that might save someone's life.  And you can do it so easily by using PayPal...with a major credit card or direct from your bank account.

To view the current list of donor's click here.

Norman & Quennie Seubert now have their names on the list of donors for Phase 2 of MySiquijor.com's Medical Campaign.  Thank you Norm & Quennie for your very generous donation and caring to make a difference.

I have just posted coverage of President Gloria Arroyo's inauguration of the Lazi and Larena Pier Projects.  Included is a photo of the Siquijor Department of Tourism Staff with the Secretary of the DOT; Joseph Ace Durano.  Click here to view the coverage.

Pledges for the MySiquijor.com's Medical Campaign are coming in on a daily basis.  I cannot over emphasize the importance of this fundraiser.  Not only is medical care vital for the residents of the province, but also for the tourists; both foreign and domestic.  Please do not delay...send your donation today.

Another donation has been made to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign.  We have also received "pledges" from Germany, England, Australia, and Belgium and will add those donations to our list once they arrive.

I am pleased to announce that Phase 2 of the MySiquijor.com's Medical Campaign has been launched.  PLEASE see the results of Phase 1 and the details of Phase 2 in the Medical Section.  Some of you were reluctant to participate in the initial phase due to one reason or another.  I have posted complete documentation from the beginning to the end of Phase 1 for public view.  If after viewing this you still have questions or concerns, please contact me and I will attempt to answer any and all questions.

I want to extend my deepest appreciation to those of you that contributed to Phase 1 of our medical campaign.  I sincerely believe that good things come to people that genuinely care about others.  Andre' Gide summed it up so beautifully in his journal: "Complete possession is proved only by giving. All you are unable to give possesses you."

In an effort to make Phase 2 of the Medical Campaign a global effort, I have setup a PayPal account which allows me to receive donations from 45 countries.  It is very easy to use PayPal services...you can use your major credit card to make your donation.  For you Americans that are getting your tax refunds, now is the time to send your contribution.  Please do not wait until the last minute; do it now.

MySiquijor is again accepting photo submissions.  If you have photos to submit...please be absolutely certain that they pertain to Siquijor or you are just wasting your time and mine.

I just received a news alert that has me extremely excited!!.  By this time you should all be aware of how much I care about the quality of health care available on the island.  Please read this article written by Roderick T. De La Cruz a "Today" reporter.  Click here to read this now.

November 18 , 2004

The dates of November 10th and November 11th have a personal significance to me, the birth of the United States Marine Corps and the observance of USA Veterans Day.  Usually around this time of year the American flag that is flying just outside my office window evokes a multitude of reflection for me.

Having said that...there are occasions when I ask the visitors of this website to read certain Siquijor-related materials that I feel are important for one reason or another.  I have just received such an article (letter) and I don't mind telling you that it had quite an impact on me.  I implore you to click here and read this now.

Christa Latay Herrmann has donated to the Medical Campaign for the second time.  People like Christa inspire me!.
August 11, 2004James and Susanita Fowler have made their second contribution to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign!!

August 8, 2004

At the time of this entry there are only 8 days remaining for me to receive your donations to the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign.  If you want me to do the shopping and shipping of the medical supplies I must receive your contributions by August 16, 2004.   Details can be found in the Medical Section.  Through the years I have heard a countless number of individuals state that they wished there was a way to make a positive contribution to the province of Siquijor.  This is a way to make that contribution and there are only hours remaining to send your donation.  If you wish to transfer funds via PayPal send me email and I will respond with details.

To date the monetary donations total $530 (USD) from 14 different sources.  I and my family are responsible for 4 of the 14 donations.  Close friends of mine represent another 4.  One resort has contributed to the campaign.  That only leaves 4 donations being received from other sources.

The instigation of Phase II of the medical campaign is largely dependent on the results of Phase I.  At this point, I would deem the results of the initial phase to be mediocre at best.  Phase II would necessitate a considerable financial investment and demand a significant amount of time and effort on my behalf.  Considering the results of Phase I thus far, I am not able to justify the personal sacrifice that would be required of me to launch and sustain Phase II.Continuing to make MySiquijor "Your Siquijor",

Two new pages have been added to our Tourism Traffic reports.  As a substitution for the missing Siquijor Traffic Reports dating back to July of 2003, I have included reports based on Cebu arrivals.  The statistics are courtesy of the DOT Region VII and are quite interesting.  Not only do they show the nationalities of the tourists, but they also show the growth rate from 2003 vs. 2002 and the first five months of this year as opposed to the same period in 2003.

Please don't forget to mail your medical campaign contributions as soon as you can.  There are only 53 days remaining.

MySiquijor.com is planning another photo shoot on the island shortly after the first of the year.  We are accepting "special requests" from MySiquijor.com visitors for a limited time.  If there is a subject (picture) that you would like to see included in the photo gallery send me email with the specifics as soon as possible.  I cannot guarantee that I will have the time or opportunity to take all of the requested pictures but I will certainly give it my best effort.  The deadline for special request submissions is January 1, 2004.

...Continuing to make MySiquijor "Your Siquijor".

Our list of Siquijor fiesta dates in our “Celebrate Siquijor” section is growing. We now have 34 barangay fiesta dates listed. However, since there are 134 barangays on the island we are still missing 100. Please review the list and submit your additions by clicking on the “Celebrate Siquijor” button located in the upper right-hand corner of this page.

We have had several inquiries concerning the current weather conditions in the past few weeks.  Current weather conditions for Dumaguete and Cebu can be found on the bottom of the "Tourist info" page.

Also we have had a few visitors asking about the financial institutions available on the island.  The information on the local banks is available on the bottom of the "Around Siquijor" page.

Judging from the amount of inquiries and overall traffic that we have had lately, I would say that the island will soon have a lot of visitors.

Good news!!!!!

We take great delight in announcing that our sari-sari store will remain open for an indefinite period. The increase in sales coupled with the many requests that we have received from our visitors has caused us to cancel (or at least delay) the scheduled closure. We will review the monthly activity statistics to make future determinations.

We are also releasing approximately 18 never-seen-before designs. This new offering boosts the total number of available designs to 45! We encourage everyone to visit the sari-sari store and take a look at what is available.

There is a 30-day money back guarantee on all products. Don't feel comfortable ordering products online? No problem! The MySiquijor.com sari-sari store accepts orders over the phone and by mail. Payment can be made by credit card, check, or money order. There is also shipping available for international orders.

[ unconfirmed news]

‘Survivor’ to hold challenge in Siquijor.

President Arroyo said on Wednesday that the hit U.S. television show, Survivor, will be holding its next challenge in an undisclosed location on Siquijor Island.

Mrs. Arroyo told reporters in a luncheon meeting in Siargao Island on Wednesday that she has been told that Survivor, a hit reality television series in the United States, will begin shooting in the infamous island next month.

When asked to comment on the island’s reputation as a haven for manananggals, or bat-winged man-eating folk, the President just laughed and maintained that she was pleased with the location choice.

Mrs. Arroyo noted that the setup would generate over P3 million in taxes for the provincial government and boost its potential as a tourist destination.

Previous Survivor series were shot in the Borneo jungle, the Australian outback, Kenya and the Marquesas Islands, while the current series being shown was shot in Thailand.

The show involves leaving a group of contestants in a remote area with bare provisions.

The contestants, who are left to fend for themselves, have to outwit each other in challenges. The remaining survivor at the end of the weeks-long experience receives $1 million.

Mrs. Arroyo made her own bid for tourism by going surfing off Siargao Island, where she opened the 7th International Surfing Cup Thursday.

The President, who used to ride the waves with husband Jose Miguel Arroyo in Baler, Aurora province, before they were wed, tried to revive her long-dormant surfing skills on Wednesday at Cloud Nine Resort, and again on Thursday.
